Iroquois Maintenance Schedule and Activities

In the event that Iroquois schedules a maintenance or other activity that may cause noise or odor to be detectable by residents within close proximity of the pipeline, notice of such will be provided here.

Pipeline Work Planned in Dover, NY - Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

On Wednesday, October 24 Iroquois will be performing work on its pipeline in the vicinity of Dover Furnace Road South in Dover, NY. In order to perform this work safely, Iroquois must isolate and depressurize a section of its pipeline by conducting a controlled release so that no gas is present in the line while the work is being done.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, Iroquois will conduct this activity at its compression station site. The release will be done at high pressure in order to clear the line quickly and safely.

Anyone near this location may hear loud noise and/or detect the smell of natural gas odorant during the release.

While the planned work activity will continue throughout the day, the depressurization is expected to take approximately 30 minutes. Natural gas is naturally lighter than air and odorless. It will quickly rise and dissipate into the atmosphere. Mercaptan, an odorant added to make it recognizable for safety reasons, may be detectable as minute traces will separate from the natural gas. Mercaptan is not harmful, but has an unpleasant smell similar to rotten eggs.

Once the planned work has been completed, the pipeline will be purged of air and refilled with natural gas. The purging process is expected to occur late afternoon/evening. There will be some noise from the purge operation in the immediate vicinity for a short duration.

Iroquois will make every effort to minimize the impact and any potential inconvenience this work may cause, while making safety our number one priority. This work will not affect any local gas distribution service.
